Energy Saving

bright ideas

1 See the light: LED  light bulbs use 500% less than energy than fluorescent light bulbs and 3000% less than a regular bulb . They are also cooler to the touch, less apt to break, and contain no mercury. LED is safer in your children's room and last longer.

2 Become a vampire slayer: Many electronic devices such as DVD players, computers, and chargers, don't really turn off when you push the off switch. They switch into standby mode and still suck electricity using "vampire" power. Electronics account for about 15 percent of the average home's usage. You can cut down on that substantially by plugging equipment into a power strip and turning it off when you're not using the equipment. Also timers are a good idea.

3 The great indoors: You might be heating and cooling your neighborhood if your windows and doors aren't thermally efficient or if the openings around your windows and doors aren't properly weather-stripped or foam insulation filling the cracks.

4 Program it: Why heat your water when your out? Timers are great set them for when you are in. Keep the water hot with a water heater blanket that does not have fiberglass particles that will harm you.

5 Beat the heat: Added insulation in attic can save and retain comfort in your home. Adding insulation to your attic is  a easy DIY project.

6 Green: Geothermal uses mother earth to heat and cool your home.
